Careful with these #MeToo Movements, part 2

Careful with these #MeToo Movements

hollywood-signNowhere in this society has as much to gain as those in Hollywood California in as much as the free advertising given to stars and/or celebrities, let’s face it, through whatever film they are working on or in guarantees these individuals as much talk time as in any other industry. Just the mention of an interview – these folks are being paid for their opinions and hell, why not throw in a photo shoot to boot?

Pressure for the so-called diversity, which according to Heather Mac Donald, is defined reductively by gonads and melanin, is, of course, nothing new.

Mac Donald states that since the 1990s, every mainstream institution has lived in terror of three lethal words “all white males,” an epithet capable of producing paroxysms, or a severe attack or a sudden increase in the intensity of a disease, usually recurring periodically.

Mac Donald asserts that Silicon Valley start-ups and science labs quake before the charge of being all male. The New York Times recently criticized the board of fashion giant H&M for being entirely white. We can assume that the Times would have let loose with a bigger gun had there been no females on the board. However pervasive the diversity imperative was before, the #MeToo movement is going to make the previous three decades look like a golden age of meritocracy.      typewriter

No mainstream institution will hire, promote, or compensate without an exquisite calculation of gender and race ratios. Males in general and white males will have to make a clear very high bar deferring that halcyon moment of gender equity. Please, let us all be reminded that this is an opinion of a female. Regardless of where it is, there will always be mainstream institutions that may try and move into a more comfortable appearance.

Hollywood and the media are already showing the #MeToo effect. Almost everyone who is in that industry can easily remember the diversity issues in 2013s Oscars. At this year’s Oscar awards lunch, the President of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, John Bailey, prefaced his remarks by noting that he was a “75-year-old white man.” Bailey was trying to get ahead of the curve, since if he hadn’t pointed out this “shameful status” feminists crusaders in the press and industry would have done so for him. Witness Natalie Portman’s ridiculous sneer in presenting the 2018 Golden Globe awards: “And here are the all-male nominees.” This type of low brow and pathetic shallow bean counting is now going to become the automatic response to any perceived lack of “diversity” in entertainment. $_35Naturally, Bailey announced reparations for the Academy’s predominately white male profile: henceforth it would “balance gender, race, ethnicity, and religion” in all its activities and would double its female and minority membership by 2020.

This was not enough. Outside the lunch, the National Hispanic Media Coalition protested the lack of ethnic proportional representation in this year’s Oscar nominations.

There is so much to say about this situation. Perhaps the most concerning for me is in the notion that we may never know who the superior candidates for a position who were passed over. This for sure alerts me of the potential loss of American competitiveness and scientific achievement.

Speaking only for myself, I am getting sick and tired of the unabated funds received for certain roles in Hollywood. I was reading on my Twitter account a statement by Emily Stone where all things considered then she was the highest paid actress. This voluminous comparison goes on and on and on with Betty Davis and Joan Crawford, Jennifer Lawrence, and Emma Stone, or Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts?
