Recommit to America

Recommit to America

This week we’ve decided to recommit ourselves to perhaps one of the greatest gifts ever. We came across a post called the Mount Vernon Statement. We were so moved by the simplicity of what the statement says and does we decided to follow in kind.

We recommit ourselves to the ideas of the American Founding. Through the Constitution, the Founders created an enduring framework of limited government based on the rule of law. They sought to secure national independence, provide for economic opportunity, establish true religious liberty and maintain a flourishing society of republican self-government. (Statement)

Each one of these founding ideas is presently under sustained attack. In recent decades, America’s principles have been undermined and redefined in our culture, our universities, and our politics as well as our own people.

How many times have we written about the notion of hedonism – that devotion of seeking for pleasure, especially the self-indulgent one, to pleasure and happiness as a way of life. This may come as a “News Flash” for many; however, the United States of America was not forged as a philosophical doctrine that holds that pleasure is the highest good or the source of moral values. Yet by looking at our culture one would think that it was; subsequently, we have homosexuals wanting matrimonial rights; further, we have illegal immigrants coming and going through our nation’s revolving door in record numbers.

Political correctness is one of the culprits of the undoing of America. First we may entertain the notion that homosexuals are desirous of same-sex marriage. Until we find out that marriage is not between a man and a woman and they’re no longer homosexuals – but gays. All things being equal the precise same issue is going on within the lesbian community – yet, they belong to the LGBT “community” to lend them more visibility and accountability. A social phenomena fed by the American mainstream press that somehow makes it okay.

Some insist that America must change, cast off the old and put on the new. But where would this lead — forward or backward, up or down? In a sense it would be going toward the unknown where its practices have not gone before – could this be construed as imminent death? (Statement)

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”—Thomas Jefferson

The excessive spending and expansion of the Federal Government by the Obama administration and its congressional allies gave rise early in 2009 to a new broad-based citizen movement that mirrored the Boston Tea Party of 1777. Soon after, the spirit of smaller government and the resistance to the demands of politicians in Washington DC and state capitals spread across America to all 50 states. The grassroots activity of millions of Tea Party participants has reignited an interest in constitutional government, the rule of law, and America’s founding principles .
