The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has scheduled a vote for next week to consider holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress over the controversial Fast and Furious gun-tracking operation.
Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., released a 64-page memo in early May outlining the case for holding the attorney general in contempt. The chairman based his argument around Holder’s failure to respond to an October 2011 subpoena for internal Justice Department documents on the operation. The committee’s vote for contempt is scheduled for June 20.
Putting this matter on the Ad Ridiculitum scale consider these matters that have already been dealt with and subsequent remedies set forth.
It took very little time (one week or two) to deal with Secret Service agents with their rendezvous in Colombia, South America. Furthermore, how long did it take for justice to be served and executed in the matter of
“The Obama administration has not asserted Executive Privilege or any other valid privilege over these materials, and it is unacceptable that the Department of Justice refuses to produce them,” Issa said in a
statement Monday, accusing Holder of having “failed to meet his legal obligations.”
He said the Justice Department has “obstructed the investigation,” adding that the department “can still stop the process of contempt” by delivering key documents.
The Justice Department maintains that it has cooperated with the investigation and provided thousands of documents. Holder has testified before the committee at least eight times about Fast and Furious, most recently on Thursday before the House Judiciary Committee. In a separate statement, House Speaker John Boehner said the department is “out of excuses.”
Eric Holder, the United States Attorney General, is doing nothing more than stonewalling, side-stepping every issue he’s been queried on, and basically wasted not only his time but also those on the Committee; yet, by far the most egregious is the reality that he has been wasting time, money, and emotion of those family members who are deeply involved.
Holder seems to have forgotten that Brian Terry was the Border Patrol officer who was murdered with those very weapons that Holder knew his department was involved with. Furthermore, there are other former ATF agents and other former government employees that have lost just about everything in their lives for being forthright in their comments and who have told the truth regarding the matter.
Just to make coherency out of this nonsensical act Holder is putting on…we wonder if Barack Obama has given consideration as to why the American public is looking straight at his Administration in the covert leaks? Does Barack Obama being “offended” even enter one’s mind?
