Ex-porn star reading to LA students causes stir

If there is recurrent theme on this website that is written and seen by more than all else – it is definitely aspects of education, the government’s involvement with education, yet by far is the notion of what are parents doing to make it a better or worse learning environment for their students.

We believe that unless a parent is working with their child for less than one-half of the amount of homework received then are they helping at all? If for example your child received for all classes 2 hours of solid homework, then we believe that a parent should be with their child for a minimum of one hour. Children need to be reading, reading, and more reading from birth.

All of this nonsense about parents knowing what’s best for their children, especially in education, is full of bull-squat and can easily proved. We’ve all heard the jokes about how long it takes to get pregnant – “30 seconds of pleasure for 30 years of misery” or “I was only with this person one time…and it was the stupidest thing I have ever done!”

So let’s add this up: Gee one hour a day or think of what you might use that time for. Most parents are ready and more than willing to assist the local school with serving at lunch time, maybe some day care after school, or even maybe just a bit of time before school. At the outside shot some creative parents will want to put a posse together to nab children who are truant, or skipping classes.

In all sincerity we believe wholeheartedly that these parents are in for the full scuttle-butt value on Mr. or Mrs. Teacher; that of course start as rumors, and “…trust me I won’t tell…” to full-scale variety gossip. Try to make valid and/or reliable sense from the following act of kindness. Yet is sure seems to us that this ought to be the conversation for the “Occupier’s” rather than from a community.

Some parents have filed complaints with the Parent-Teacher Association after a former adult film star said she read to children in a classroom at a Los Angeles County elementary school.

Sasha Grey, a 23-year-old ex-porn actress who has appeared in mainstream shows like HBO’s “Entourage,” was a guest earlier this month at Compton’s Emerson Elementary School for Read across America Day.

Grey tweeted Nov. 2 that she spent the day reading to students in the first and third grades.

KTLA-TV quoted parents questioning whether it was appropriate to have Grey at the school. Parent Dudley Wheaton wondered why the school couldn’t find a fireman or a police officer to read to students.

Grey has not appeared in porn films in over two years. She has been a regular on “Entourage” and appeared in the 2009 film “The Girlfriend Experience.”

First, who on earth knows that Ms. Grey was involved with pornography? Raise your hands now. Go right on ahead and hurl that first stone. Does a 1st or 3rd grade student know the filmography of Ms. Grey? No, and the only way they would know is by the words of an adults mouth.

We do not know Ms. Sasha Grey, wouldn’t know her if she walked into the grocery store. However, she is giving up her time to assist your children, something that most parents are not doing.

“Using social media for its large impact, Sasha Grey, Tweeted that, “I am proud to have participated in the “Read Across America”program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, CA. I read Dog Breath by Dav Pilkey to the sweetest 1st and 3rd grade children.”

  1. I taught 2nd grade and I know the kids loved guest readers, no matter who they were. Teachers too enjoyed having others read to their students too. Great post!

So glad you liked the post and we quite agree with you! What people have done in their pasts should be a matter of forgive and forget. Even to quote someone far greater than I: “Press on…and forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead.” (Phil. 3:13)

Maybe I should put in my sidebar the other quotes of Ms. Grey’s on the matter of assisting students when reading; she is truly committed.

And from a fellow educator! We all agree here how all children love guests in the classroom.

      Thank you again,

      jps
