What has happened to Morgan Freeman?
Are most of our readers aware of the conversation that occurred between Jesse Jackson and another gentleman that was caught on open mike, while awaiting an interview with Fox News, prior to Barack Obama being nominated by the Democrats for the Office of President? Something to do about “…talking down to black people…I’ll c** his nuts off…”
Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman joined Tell Me More host Michel Martin to discuss his new movie, The Magic of Belle Isle. But the prolific actor, famous for his roles in films such as The Shawshank Redemption, Million Dollar Baby and The Dark Knight, also had a lot to say about politics. He was especially interested in talking about President Obama, and why Freeman thinks he should not be called America’s first black president.
“First thing that always pops into my head regarding our president is that all of the people who are setting up this barrier for him … they just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America,” Freeman said. “There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president — he’s America’s first mixed-race president.”
Many of Freeman’s films explore important chapters of African-American history: Amistad was about the trans-Atlantic slave trade and Glory centered on an all-black regiment in the Civil War. Both films were
intensely acted by all the actors and especially brought to life by Freeman.
Freeman says he has been disappointed by what he considers unfair treatment of Obama by his political opponents. Please don’t lose all of my respect now Morgan.
“He is being purposely, purposely thwarted by the Republican Party, who started out at the beginning of his tenure by saying, ‘We are going to do whatever is necessary to make sure that he’s only going to serve one term,’ ” he said. “That means they will not cooperate with him on anything. So to say he’s ineffective is a misappropriation of the facts.”
Okay what have you done with the great actor Morgan Freeman, and where is my long lost, very lost friend? Freeman’s comments of late have made me sick to my stomach. He has always been a man with a conviction and purpose or so at least that is what he ostensibly does with his characters.
It is precisely at this juncture where I must say to Morgan Freeman to put it down and stick a sock in it. He is now ranting and carrying on like someone who has a bout with senility. It wasn’t long ago that Mr. Freeman was ragging on something else regarding Barack Obama – now it looks as though he’s trying to sever all ties. Why don’t those who “act” as other people just keep their mouths shut about things they know very little about?
Freeman was trying to make a point that some people oppose Obama because of his race, when in fact, the actor argued; Obama is “mixed race” and not African-American.
Well there goes another one who has bitten the Hollyweird dust. At one time Morgan Freeman was my undisputed all time favorite actor. However, inasmuch as his stock has run the slippery slope much the same as the American economy has as for me, I’m reasonably certain it’s time to let this investment go.
