Judiciary Committee thumbs up…
Pushing toward a historic Supreme Court confirmation vote, the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday approved Judge Sonia Sotomayor to be the first Hispanic justice, over nearly solid Republican opposition.”
Let’s all just get one thing straight here – the above quote is from a main-stream media journalist who knowingly or unknowingly – showed her bias in the opening statement of her article. We have been consistent throughout this entire process that Judge Sonia Sotomayor has been nominated by President Barack Obama to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court of the United States.

Judge Sonia Sotomayor
And as in all high-level nominations to appointments even though the President nominates, the appointment comes at the behest of the Senate. Moreover, we have held steadfast to the notion that this is about Sonia Sotomayor and the Supreme Court. Period, end of story, and we don’t need any fodder to fill up space.
As for us here at The Thinker it has now become embarrassing. We do realize that one can only embarrass oneself; however, we also feel that so much (too much!) emphasis has been placed on her ethnicity and race. Please don’t misunderstand; the woman and all Hispanic and Latino persons everywhere have every reason to be proud. Yet, when you hear the name: ‘Judge Sonia Sotomayor’ what immediately comes to mind? That’s the exact same thing that we think about.
The Committee’s vote went 13-6 with only one Republican voting for Sotomayor’s nomination. Care to guess who that was? Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, the lone Republican who voted in favor of Sotomayor, does that surprise anyone? Sen. Graham believes that illegal immigration is just fine the way it is and quite openly, we’re surprised that he hasn’t at least tried to become a Democrat. The following are some of his rationale for his vote:
Republicans who voted against Sotomayor on the Judiciary panel reflected the choice many GOP conservatives have made to side with their core supporters and oppose a judge they charge will bring liberal bias and racial and gender prejudices to her decisions which most allege, including Judge Sotomayor, she has done pursuant to her previous cases.
There is a particular element that we are unsettled with and that is the notion of how special interests have marred the entire proceedings. Several Hispanic and civil rights groups (National Council of La Raza) praised the Judiciary panel’s vote as a ‘turning point’ in the action of embracing diversity and racial equality in the USA. It almost sounds like extortion.

Yes, La Raza (The Race), a racist group devoted to the “return of Aztlan” and the preeminence of Latinos in that western part of – if they get their way – what was once America supports Sotomayor. And the MSM and the Left smiles.
Can you imagine the outrage if an analogous group, the Klu Klux Klan, came out in support of a White SCOTUS nominee?
jonolan:
You make a magnificent point regarding what I refer to as ‘protected groups.’ And I believe that what you say is a true and correct assessment of what really is going on. As sad as it is…your comparison re: the KKK is really quite valid. Probably going to get some hate mail on this one, but why should homosexuals, people not comfortable in their own skin, or all this ‘equal rights’ rubbish when in fact, the Klan were merely exercising their 1st amendment rights?
Nice to hear from you again!
I’d have to say that the Klan were doing a lot more than exercising their 1st amendment rights, but then so are La Raza.
I suppose I should mention, for the sake of that hate mail, that the Klan I’m talking about is what is referred to as The second Klan, which did as much or more through politics as it did through any other means.
