One would have thought...
There is an interesting paradox a brewing right now and it seems to us that the U.S. House of Representatives, in particular, Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee, who wrote the majority of the text whereby there is now a House Resolution in effect that honors Michael Jackson for his many, many wonderful things he apparently did for humankind.
And holding to our pledge here at The Thinker where we would prefer to focus on Michael Jackson, the musician, entertainer, and singer-songwriter he was rather than dragging a person’s baggage through the mud once they are no longer with us.
However, we also believe in maintaining established standards, traditions, and not budging when we perceive that some standards may be compromised or become lowered. We are not espousing that Michael Jackson budged or compromised. What we are espousing desperate people DO desperate things.
Therefore we invite every one of you to visit two articles written today; one by the ever-popular-spark-plug Michelle Malkin, and the other by Eric Zimmermann at The Hill’s Blog Briefing Room, you will not be disappointed at all. Both Ms. Malkin’s and Mr. Zimmermann’s writing offer the full-text of the Resolution; more importantly however, is that both also feature comment sections and to those we advise that you read some for laughter, outrage, or craziness.
As for us we are curiously wondering how on earth the City or County of Los Angeles and the State of California are going to pay for memorial services, motorcades, and the rest of the coverage. California is in the throngs of bankruptcy and is literally passing out IOU’s for revenues owed.
Don’t get us wrong here – we are wondering how on the one hand Congress is honoring Mr. Jackson – whilst on the other hand L.A. and Hollyweird are being looked at to flip the bill for increased police, security, Staples Arena, and everything going into this show.
If you are like most people in the United States then you probably haven’t made all the necessary arrangements for what to do with you when your day comes. We are not advocating elaborate plans here folks; we are saying that it’s rude, selfish, and egocentric to not make the arrangements.
So as for the House of Representatives using our money to take time and concoct some kind of resolution, this is not within the parameters of what we’re paying for; hence, desperate people do desperate things, such as a ‘do nothing Congress.’
