The simple notion of controversy in most industries will drive sales up. Most often when the markets are not doing well-intentional controversy is brought forth to create some kind of hysteria in people and make them rush to their true treasure, their money. Industry and government have even place a name on this ridiculous notion: It’s called a “Red Herring.” But people please puleezzz!
Most of Heath Ledger’s friends or even people who’ve been around the whole “Entertainment Thing” knew well in advance that Heath was in trouble. Those who were closest to him knew his propensity to use drugs. Seriously now, as in most cases Heath Ledger met Michelle Williams on “the set” of Brokeback Mountain. All of what followed is the quintessential Hollywood drama story.
Let’s get a grip of reality here and call unpleasant matters exactly what they are: Unpleasant Matters.
Any controversy-good or bad-is good in Hollyweird, and we all know that. But people we need to get a grip here and realize the truth; then and only then will Heath Ledger earn is proper place in the ‘Halls of Hollyweird’.
Heath Ledger was an actor. Was he a good actor? Well that is up too a person’s own judgment. When I think about Heath up on the big screen I see an aspiring actor that is carrying around some personal baggage. Face it what was so spellbinding in his performances in “10 Things I Hate About You”, ‘The Patriot,’ and my Ledger fave, “A Knight’s Tale”? For sure they were good performances; however, one person does not make a movie.
Just like any other actor in the business-one is only as good as those around supporting them-and with Mel Gibson, Paul Bettany, Mark Addy, Julia Stiles, and anyone of ‘who’s who’ acclaim in the film industry such as Jason Isaacs, Chris Cooper, Jake Gllyenhaal, and of course, Michelle Williams, well one is going to look awfully good.
Heath Ledger was also a drug addict, and unfortunately died as a result. Just like River Phoenix, Brad Renfro, Marilyn Monroe, John Belusci, Freddie Prinze, James Dean, heck the list is a long one. The fact of the matter here is the notion of spin. Heath Ledger didn’t die of a drug overdose: He died of an accidental-prescription-drug-overdose. This entire spin-including this weekend’s premiere and record breaking receipts-are the result of this spin of cashing in on a deceased actor.
The saddest thing about all of this coverage, hoopla, and controversy is that it doesn’t look at who Mr. Ledger was as a person. Tributes galore at the Oscars and every other Hollywood award show who honor their own albeit, an animated Ogre, the talking pig in Babe, or what have you. Heath Ledger’s performance in “Batman: The Dark Knight” is good.
However when will we come to the realization that an adoring daughter lost her father; a loving family lost a son, brother, uncle, or nephew, and any attempts to reconcile with Michelle Williams, who left Heath Ledger for fear of their daughter’s life and well being, are now completely lost. The morale of this article is when you see your friend seeing multiple doctors for a multitude of reasons…..maybe we all need to talk to that person.

Being a drug addict doesn’t make you a bad person.
