Damned if You Do, Damned if You Don’t

stanford_museum_california_981371_tn3.jpg      This entire escapade is just the proof I have needed all along to espouse what pansies we are becoming as a Nation. For goodness sake—hopefully for the last time—the girl broke the law, period. She knew her own disposition when it came to her driving privileges and she chose to disregard what she signed her own name too: the terms and conditions of her probation.

This is not like someone snuck in and dropped a bomb on this person. When one gets pulled over by the police, for probable cause as clearly admitted by Ms. Hilton, then blows a 0.08 Breathalyzer test, well you’re going to get arrested. Please remember that there are consequences to being arrested and booked.

Hilton, now 26, was driving her Mercedes-Benz in Hollywood with Kimberly Stewart, Rod Stewart’s daughter, in the passenger seat. She was pulled over at 12:31 a.m. for driving erratically, and took a Breathalyzer test showing her blood alcohol level to be 0.08, the minimum required for a DUI arrest in California.  She was handcuffed and taken to the Hollywood police station, where she was booked and her car was impounded.

According to Lieut. Paul Vernon, Stewart told police “she had been drinking, so (Hilton) opted to have the car towed rather than parked there because neither of them were in a condition to drive it away.”  “She said the police were extremely professional and she was extremely cooperative as well,” says Mintz. “Again, she regrets the entire situation.”  So what about any of this cruel and unusual? Beats me! Let’s consider this timeline, if you will:

Timeline of events:

  • September 7, 2006 – Paris Hilton arrested for DUI in Hollywood, California.

  • November 30, 2006 – Her license was suspended on Nov. 30 for excessive blood-alcohol levels following her DUI arrest in September.

  • January 15, 2007 – On Jan. 15, Hilton was pulled over by California Highway Patrol. Officers informed her that she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging that she was not to drive, according to papers filed in Superior Court.

  • January 22, 2007 – Pleads guilty to a lesser charge of alcohol-related reckless driving and placed on 36 month probation.  February 27, 2007 – Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies stopped Hilton on Feb. 27 and charged her with violating her probation. Police said she was pulled over at about 11 p.m. after authorities saw the car speeding with its headlights off. Paris was sited for this action.

  • May 4, 2007 – The heiress arrived at court 10 minutes late in the back of a black Cadillac Escalade and swept into the Metropolitan Courthouse with several men in suits, ignoring screams of photographers lining the route into a rear entrance. Her parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, also came with her.

Evidently there is quite a track record for such a short period of time. Barely a month goes by before Ms. Hilton’s facing more trouble. Seriously, wouldn’t you be thinking about now…”Hmm, these brushes with the law are far to frequent and before something really drastic happens, I’m going to lay low…”? I know I would.

Folks we are talking about culpability here. We are addressing how a 26-year-old person, after already being the recipient of receiving a lesser charge, and placed on less that one-half the original amount of probation, could NOT possibly know that her license had been suspended. Furthermore, having the audacity to place the blame on someone else. Go figure!

Goodness gracious girl, how much did you pay that lawyer of yours? First, when you go to Court my first advice is listen…NOT hear, but listen. It is not your lawyer’s or your agent’s life that is being negotiated…it is yours! Seriously the more I consider how ludicrous this is, the more I think she needs more than 45-days! I might also express my concern regarding your mental health for the sake of judgment, knowing right from wrong, and a battery of tests to see if you can read! Ignorance is no excuse!    And then there’s this one:

Shortly after the punishment was handed out, defense attorney Howard Weitzman said he would appeal. “I’m shocked, I’m surprised and really disheartened in the system that I’ve worked in for close to 40 years,” Weitzman said, adding that the sentence was “uncalled for, inappropriate and bordered on the ludicrous. I think she’s singled out because of who she is.”

As for me, it shows just how far removed from reality these people are. Weitzman is a joke, and a bad one at that. Paris darling, if you’re going to sue anything or anyone, sue Weitzman. This person is an “officer of the court” and after years of abusing the system he’s unable to follow simple procedure? If it makes you feel better, I think he refused to represent O.J. Simpson, I think.
